DALLAS (SMU) - For the fifth consecutive year, SMU Athletics has set annual giving records. For fiscal year 2013, which ended May 31, SMU again scored the "triple crown," setting records in all three categories - Total Athletics Giving, Athletics Annual Giving and Mustang Club Giving.

Including capital and other gifts, over $23 million was given to SMU Athletics in fiscal year 2013, continuing a steady growth that has seen total giving jump 268% over the last five years from $8.6 million to $23 million.

Contributions to the Mustang Club reached $3 million, a 15% increase over last year's then-record $2.6 million, and a 100% increase (from $1.5 million to $3 million) since 2008. Mustang Club giving helped SMU achieve a record total of $8.3 million in annual gifts to Athletics - an increase of 171% over the past seven years.

"Our team of volunteers and staff did a great job in securing a record level of financial support again this year," said Sr. Assoc. A.D. Tim Leonard. "The growing support from donors for our student-athletes and programs is evident as we travel around the country. Our volunteers have embraced the Morgan Campaign annual fundraising effort and their enthusiasm has expanded across the country, increasing National Mustang Club participation. We want thank our donors, volunteers and staff for another record year."

A large portion of the 2013 contributions came in the form of gifts for capital projects, including those to support the expansion of football facilities, the renovation and expansion of Moody Coliseum and the construction of a new 12-court tennis complex and training facility. These projects will provide many new and improved features to enhance the experience for Mustang student-athletes and fans.
