An open letter from SMU A.D. Rick Hart:

Mustang Nation:

With four conference championships and a football bowl win since August, it has certainly been an exciting few months on the Hilltop. Away from the competitive surfaces, our student-athletes have performed well in the classroom and actively participated in community service initiatives. You should all be proud of your association with SMU and SMU Athletics!

Following a comprehensive assessment period, which involved input from a variety of constituent groups, we have begun to implement our Strategic Plan for Mustang Athletics. Our plan is titled "The SMU Advantage," and we believe it will provide needed guidance to propel our program to even greater successes in the future.

One important element of our plan calls for increased communication with you - our fans. As a department, we want to articulate clearly our Vision, Mission, Values and Goals, as well as all other elements of our operations. Your questions and feedback will help us to understand better the full array of perspectives and develop specific projects and tasks to advance SMU Athletics.

I have had the opportunity to meet many of our alumni and supporters at various athletic and university events, speaking engagements and other gatherings; however, we are looking to expand and enhance our communications to ensure that we are reaching a broad and diverse audience. To that end, I am starting a new (hopefully) weekly column we're calling "Straight From The Hart."

The column will be an open format that will allow me address issues that are on my mind, as well as topics that are meaningful to you. To submit a question, use this form or email us at smumustangs@smu.edu. Many of you know that I also use Twitter (@AD_RickHart) and will frequently respond to questions through that medium as well. Feel free to tweet your questions to me, and if I can't answer in 140 characters, you may see your query show up in an upcoming column.

I'm truly excited about the future of our program and hope that you share in this anticipation that our best days are ahead.

Go Mustangs and Pony Up!
