WACO, Texas (SMU) - The SMU women's cross country team placed second as the team opened its 2013 season at the Bear Twilight Invitational, hosted by Baylor University. Freshmen Tova Magnusson and Agnes Sjöström paced the Mustangs as they finished third (13:49.6) and fourth (13:51.0) overall, respectively, in their first collegiate meet.

In addition to Magnusson and Sjöström, sophomore Karoline Skatteboe placed sixth in a time of 13:55.2. She was followed by sophomore transfer Melanie Stemper who rounded out the Mustangs who finished in the top 10, as she placed ninth in 13:58.6.

Sophomore Shanoah Souza and senior Caitlin Keen placed 11th (14:09.4) and 15th (14:23.7), respectively. Sophomore Holly Archer placed 17th in a time of 14:35.

Freshman Lauren Zabaleta (14:59.7), Anna Nelson (15:04.4), Julie Vanderhout (15:20.6), Margaret Brennan (15:38) and Ali Franklin (16:12.2) also competed for the Mustangs in the first collegiate race of their careers.

SMU is idle until they compete on Saturday, September 14 at the University of Texas-Arlington Invitational when they travel to nearby Arlington, Texas.
