IRVING, Texas (SMU/C-USA) - Silje Fjortoft, a two-time Conference USA cross country champion at SMU, has earned the Jim Castaneda Postgraduate Scholarship, C-USA officials announced today.
Fjortoft graduated in December 2011 with a 3.856 GPA in applied physiology and sports management with a minor in German. She was a three-time Conference USA All-Academic Team selection and was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team twice. As a senior, she was named to the USA Track and Field All-Academic Team, and has been honored as a member of the SMU Honor Roll of Distinction for seven semesters.
In athletic competition, Fjortoft became the first runner is NCAA history to win the South Central Region three times. She advanced to the NCAA Championships all four years, finishing 13th in 2011, earning All-America honors. She was also named C-USA Cross Country Athlete of the Year, NCAA South Central Region Athlete of the Year and C-USA Outstanding Senior in 2011.
Fjortoft, a native of Orsta, Norway, plans to attend graduate school at either the University of Oslo in Norway, studying physical therapy, medicine and nutrition, or the Naprapathy College of Stockholm.
