Freshman Ashlee Powers finished second at the Ken Garland Invitational hosted by North Texas, leading SMU to a victory.

DENTON, Texas (SMU) - Freshman Ashlee Powers finished second with a 17:03.71 and led the way for SMU as the Mustangs finished first at the Ken Garland Invitational hosted by North Texas on Saturday morning.
The Mustangs came out on top for the second time this season with a total of 25 points. Powers' second-place finish was a career-best result, and fellow freshman Karoline Skatteboe finished third with a 17:08.20.
Mary Alenbratt finished fifth with a 17:39.79 as SMU's only senior continued her consistent performance. Freshman Shanoah Souza finished seventh with a 17:48.64, and junior Caitlin Keen finished tenth at 18:33.48, giving the Mustangs five runners in the top-10.
TCU finished second overall and the University of North Texas finished third.
SMUs's next meet is on Sept. 28, at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
