WACO, Texas (SMU) - Freshman Karoline Skatteboe led the way with a 13:51.1 for SMU as the team finished second at the Bear Twilight Invite in Waco, Texas on Friday night.
SMU finished with 53 points in its first meet of the season, 15 behind winner and host Baylor. Skatteboe, a native of Norway, quickly showed her skills in her first-career collegiate event. She finished third overall, and was the top-ranking freshman.
Mary Alenbratt, SMU's lone senior in 2012-13, finished sixth with a time of 14:03.7, and was followed in seventh by another Mustangs freshman, Shanoah Souza, who clocked-in at 14:04.8. Fellow freshman Ashlee Powers finished 13th with a time of 14:17.7.
Baylor sophomore Rachel Johnson claimed the individual victory, timing at 13:28.5, almost 12 seconds faster than second-place Agnes Kemboi of TCU.
Texas A&M finished third in the team standings, followed by TCU, Dallas Baptist, Texas State, Tarleton State and Angelo State.
Next up for the cross country team is another local meet, at the University of Texas-Arlington Invitational on Sept. 8.
