IRVING, Texas (SMU) - Senior Olivia Bailey was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, league officials announced Thursday. The setter has a 4.0 GPA in communication studies, earning the third academic award of her career. The transfer also earned all-academic honors as a sophomore and junior at Loyola Marymount.
Bailey, who went to Hockaday in Dallas, was fourth in the league, averaging 9.81 assists per set in conference matches during her first season at SMU, and she averaged 9.52 assists per set overall. She was named Conference USA Setter of the Week on Oct. 8 after leading the Mustangs to a pair of C-USA wins with a season-high 53 assists in a 3-1 win at UCF and a league-high 12.14 assists per set in the two matches.
She has a team-high seven double-doubles and is second on the team with 208 digs. She also scored 61 kills and 44 blocks this season. She had at least 40 assists in 11 of 24 matches. The Mustangs face No. 1 seed Tulsa in the first round of the C-USA Championship on Friday at noon in Tulsa, Okla.
