Young, Lozano Selected To All-American Athletic Conference Preseason Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU) - Caroline Young was a unanimous selection to the inaugural All-American Athletic Conference Preseason Team, voted on by the league's coaches. The junior was joined on the 12-player team by senior Maddie Lozano, conference officials announced Wednesday.
Young earned All-America honorable mention as a sophomore last season, and was named to the AVCA All-Midwest Region and All-Conference USA first teams. The outside hitter finished the season ninth in C-USA with 3.39 kills per set and recorded a league-high 51 aces.
Lozano led the Mustangs with 132 blocks, third in the league, and was second on the team behind Young with 238 kills, hitting .214. She started all 31 matches and missed just one of 117 sets during her first season on the Hilltop after transferring from Arizona.
The Mustangs, who were picked to finish sixth in the 10-team league, begin the season on Aug. 30 against Quinnipiac in the first round of the Texas State Classic at 1:30 p.m. SMU will host its first home matches in the Dedman Center with the SMU Invite on Sept. 6 and 7, and starts American Athletic Conference matches on Sept. 27 at Connecticut.
