Volleyball Announces 2012 Schedule
Mustangs to host four 2011 NCAA Tournament Qualifiers

DALLAS (SMU) -The SMU volleyball program announced its 2012 schedule today, highlighted by five 2011 NCAA Tournament teams, four of which the Mustangs will host in Moody Coliseum.

The Mustangs kick off the 12-match home schedule by hosting the SMU Invitational on Sept. 6-8. SMU will face Wichita State and Texas State, both 2011 NCAA Tournament qualifiers, as well as SEC foe Auburn.

SMU opens the season with back-to-back road tournaments, taking on Georgia Tech, Cal State Fullerton and Charleston Southern at the Georgia Tech Invite Aug. 24 and 25 in Atlanta, Ga. The Mustangs will then face DFW Metroplex-rival TCU, as well as Army and Texas A&M Corpus Christi, in the TCU Invite in Fort Worth on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

In the final tournament before the conference schedule begins on the road against two-time defending Conference USA Champion Tulsa on Sept. 19, the Mustangs will compete against Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arkansas-Little Rock in the Oklahoma Invite on Sept. 14 and 15. Tulsa and Oklahoma faced off in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament, with the Golden Hurricane advancing with a 3-1 victory. SMU was the only C-USA team to beat the conference champion, winning a pair of 3-1 decisions.

After opening the C-USA schedule at Tulsa, the Mustangs host ECU and Marshall on Sept. 21 and 23. Tulane, UTEP, Tulsa and Memphis will take on SMU in Moody Coliseum between Oct. 12 and 28, while Texas foes Houston and Rice will conclude the conference season in Dallas on Nov. 9 and 11.

SMU will make road trips to Rice and Houston, as well as Tulsa, in September. UCF and Southern Miss on Oct. 5 and 7 will conclude a four-match road trip. SMU will also travel to UAB on Oct. 25 before facing UTEP and Tulane on Nov. 2 and 4 in the final road trip of the regular season.

The Mustangs will celebrate Senior Day in the C-USA finale against Rice on Nov. 11 before competing in the Conference USA Championships Nov. 15-18. SMU will host North Texas and Baylor, a 2011 NCAA Tournament competitor, in a post-C-USA tournament matches on Nov. 21 and 24, respectively. The 2012 NCAA Volleyball Championship will begin in December, with the national semifinals and final in the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky., on Dec. 13 and 15.
