Mustangs Came Up Short Against North Texas

DALLAS (SMU) - Caroline Young had a match-high 14 kills, reaching double figures for the 12th time in the last 13 matches, but the Mustangs came up a few points short against North Texas in Moody Coliseum Wednesday night, falling 3-0 (29-27, 26-24, 25-21).
Senior Courtney Manning added three blocks to her career total, pulling to within four blocks of second all-time in Conference USA with 573 blocks during her four seasons. Manning and Maddie Lozano, who also had three blocks, each scored eight kills in the match.
Each of the first two sets took extra points to decide the winner, but in the end it was the Mean Green who came out on top, edging out the Mustangs 29-27 in the first and 26-24 in the second. North Texas (26-12) took a 5-1 lead in the third set, and SMU (10-20) was only able to get within two points the rest of the set.
Olivia Bailey had a match-high 38 assists, and Susan Lewis recorded 13 digs. Carnae Dillard scored 13 kills to lead North Texas, and Courtney Windham added 11 for the Mean Green. SMU will conclude the season Saturday against Baylor in Moody Coliseum at 1 p.m.
