DALLAS (SMU) - Sophomore Caroline Young and freshman Abbey Bybel each had a match-high 10 kills to lead the Mustangs against Tulsa Friday night in Moody Coliseum, but it wasn't enough to stretch SMU's four-match winning streak to five as the league-leading Golden Hurricane improved to 9-1 in Conference USA matches, 16-8 overall. The Mustangs fell to 8-14, 5-5 in conference matches after the 3-0 loss (25-21, 25-14, 25-17).
Tulsa, led by the conference leader in kills and one of the nation's top attackers in senior Tyler Henderson, committed just 10 errors in 115 attacks with 48 kills, hitting .330 for the match. Henderson recorded 10 kills with one error in 15 attempts to hit a match-high .600. Tulsa also had three players with nine kills each.
Courtney Manning had five kills and three blocks, taking her career total to 546, just 44 away from tying the Conference USA all-time record of 590. Maddie Lozano also had two blocks, and Olivia Bailey assisted on 33 of SMU's 37 kills.
The Mustangs travel to Birmingham, Ala., to face UAB Thursday at 7 p.m., and host Memphis Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.
