SMU Suffers Loss To Auburn
DALLAS (SMU) - Caroline Young had eight kills and four aces, and Courtney Manning and Maddie Lozano added seven kills each to lead the Mustangs, but SMU fell 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-17) to Auburn to conclude the SMU Doubletree Classic.
Manning hit.462 in the match, committing just one error in 13 attack attempts, and had a block, pushing her career total to 499. Avery Acker had a team-high 10 digs, playing libero for the last two sets, and fellow-freshman Abbey Bybel scored six kills with six digs and a block.
SMU led for most of the first set after breaking a 5-5 tie with a 10-6 run, holding the advantage until the Tigers tied the score 19-19. Once the momentum shifted, Auburn (9-1) didn't give it a chance to shift back. The Tigers completed the first-set comeback with a 25-20 win in the first set over the Mustangs (2-7).
Sarah Bullock, Chloe Rowand and Camila Jersonsky each had nine kills to lead the Tigers to the three-set victory, but it was on the defensive side of the court where Auburn gained its biggest advantage. The Tigers had 12.5 blocks, while the Mustangs recorded five.
The Mustangs compete in the Oklahoma Invitational Friday and Saturday in Norman, Okla. The first match is against Oklahoma Friday at 7 p.m.
