NEW ORLEANS (SMU) - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced this week that five Mustangs were among the 710 athletes chosen for national All-Academic track and field honors.

Mary Alenbratt, Lucija Cvitanovic, Lisa Egarter, Helena Perez and Karoline Skatteboe all earned recognition. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

Alenbratt, who finished her career at SMU this season, set three school records in 2013 - indoor mile, indoor 3000-meter and the outdoor 1500-meter. She graduated with a 3.59 GPA as a management major while minoring in Chinese.

Cvitanovic won the Conference USA javelin championship, helping lead SMU to a second-place result as a team. Cvitanovic placed 14th in javelin at the NCAA Championships and competed in the pentathlon and heptathlon for SMU. Cvitanovic holds a 3.37 GPA as a psychology major.

Egarter also competed in the heptathlon for the Mustangs, placing fifth at the C-USA Championships, including a second-place finish in the high jump portion of the event. Egarter is a business major with a 3.53 GPA.

Perez won four shot put titles (one indoor, three outdoor), including taking the C-USA outdoor championship. Her 16.60 meter mark at the C-USA Championships is fourth-best in SMU history. Perez is a management major with a 3.51 GPA.

Skatteboe, competing in her first collegiate track and field season, won two outdoor events - the 1,500-meter at the TCU Invitational and the 10,000-meter at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. She also participated in the NCAA Prelimaries in the 10,000-meter. Skatteboe currently holds a 4.0 GPA as an engineering major.
