Three Mustangs Prepare For NCAA Championships Starting Wednesday

EUGENE, Ore. (SMU) - Stephanie Kalu, Lucija Cvitanovic and Elizabeth Murphy will all compete at the NCAA Championships starting Wednesday in Eugene, Ore. The four-day event will conclude Saturday.

The trio are the first Mustangs since 2011 to participate in the NCAA Finals. That year, four Mustangs competed in Des Moines, Iowa including Simone Du Toit, who placed fourth in discus, earning All-America honors.

Kalu is seeded 23rd in the 100-meter dash. Kalu posted a time of 11.75 at the NCAA Preliminaries, and holds a season-best mark of 11.40 at the North Texas Classic on April 6.

Cvitanovic is seeded seventh in the javelin competition after tallying a mark of 50.73 meters at the NCAA Prelims. That mark is third all-time at SMU.

Murphy also recorded a season-best result at the NCAA Prelims, throwing 62.32 meters in the hammer throw, seeding her 13th for the finals. That mark is the third-best result in SMU history.

All three will start on Wednesday. The hammer throw begins at 3:30 p.m. CT, while javelin begins at 7:15 p.m. and the 100-meter event starts at 7:30 p.m. More information and live results are available here.
