SMU in Sixth Place at 2005 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Tulsa, Okla. - The SMU women?s track and field team fared well in Friday?s full slate of events at the 2005 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Tulsa, Okla. After seven events scored, SMU stands in sixth place with 24 points. Rice tops the nine women?s teams with 46 points.

In the javelin event, Mustang sophomore Andrea Kvetova took fifth place with a regional qualifying mark of 48.44 meters. Freshman Ilyssa Pettigrew placed fourth in an 800-meter run heat with a time of 2:12.33, and qualified for Saturday?s final. In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Tangela Feemster posted a mark of 1:05.14 and qualified for Saturday?s final as well. In the high jump, teammates Gaelle Niare and Alesha Stegemoller tied for second with a regional qualifying mark of 1.78 meters and scored six team points each.
