April 16, 2013
DALLAS (SMU) - Senior cross country and track and field athlete Mary Alenbratt was honored with the Presidential Award of Excellence at the 2013 SMU Awards Extravaganza at the Hughes-Trigg Student Center on Monday night.
To be eligible for the award, the student athlete must be a graduating senior with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and an outstanding record on the field of play at SMU.
Alenbratt certainly has met those requirements during her four years on the Hilltop. The native of Bohus, Sweden has preserved a 3.586 GPA and will graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management with a minor in Chinese. Alenbratt has been named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll each of her academic years at SMU.
Alenbratt has been a vital member of SMU's well-decorated cross country squads, winning three Conference USA Championships (2009, 2011 and 2012) during her four years. Alenbratt was a First Team All-C-USA honoree in 2012, and has been named to the All-Region team three times. She has also starred during the track and field seasons, holding four SMU records (three indoor records and one outdoor), including in the mile run, which she completed in 4:43.05 at the SPIRE Institute Invite on Feb. 9.
Silje Fjortoft, an alumni of the cross country and track and field teams, won the award last year.
