Arlington, Texas (SMU) - Karin van Rooyen continued her stellar senior year as she broke the 3000m school record today at the Arlington Invitational. Van Rooyen ran tough from start to finish as she crossed the line with a winning time of 9:27.88.
The Mustangs showed their depth in the 3000m as Jessica Jackson (10:03.79), Nicole Kelleher (10:06.85), Krystal Rodriguez (10:22.06) and Rachael Forish (10:30.70) captured the 4th through 7th positions.
Sophomore Andrea Kvetova started out her season right in the javelin by taking first place honors with a throw of 147’4” (44.91m). Teammate Franziska Lakomy finished in 9th place.
Sophomore Alesha Stegemoller scored a top three spot in the high jump. Stegemoller jumped 5’7-3/4” (1.72).
In the 800m run, Ilyssa Pettigrew, who was the 2004 Texas 5A 800m State Champion, opened her outdoor season with a time of 2:13.80. Pettigrew took 6th place overall.
The Mustangs head to Austin next week to compete in the Texas Relays April 6-9th, 2005.
