Women Open Outdoor Season Strong at Florida Relays

Gainesville, Florida (SMU) -- The beautiful Florida weather created ideal conditions on day one for the Mustang distance crew to showcase their talents at the 62nd Annual Coca-Cola Florida Relays.

The evening began as senior standout Karin van Rooyen captured the top collegiate spot in the women?s 1500 meter run. The South Africa native finished with a season opening best time of 4:28.19.

Corpus Christi?s Jessica Jackson got off to a strong start and never looked back. Jackson finished her first outdoor race of the 2005 season with a lifetime best of 4:32.44.

Freshman Krystal Rodriguez ran her first 1500 meter race as a college athlete in a section winning time of 4:36.77. This was also a lifetime best the Grand Prairie native.

Dartmouth transfer Nicole Kelleher competed like a true veteran as she crossed the line in a season opening best time of 17:09.48.

Day two action for the Mustangs includes the 800 meter run, 200 meter run and the 4x1500 meter relay.
