Niare Wins High Jump At Tyson Invite

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (SMU) - Mustangs Gaelle Niare and Alesha Stegemoller posted strong showings at the Tyson Invitational on Sat., Feb. 12, taking first and sixth, respectively, in the high jump.

Niare, a sophomore from Montrveil, France, cleared 1.85m to claim the win and post an automatic qualifying mark for the 2005 NCAA Track & Field Championships.

Stegemoller, also a sophomore, flew high as well taking sixth at 1.75m. The Priddy, Texas, native just missed the provisional NCAA standard of 1.78m.

Also scoring for SMU was Nicole Kelleher, who took seventh in the 3,000m in 9:55.88, an all-time personal best.

SMU's distance medley relay took second behind national power Tennesse, finishing in 11:52.68. The squad of Jessica Jackson, Staci Jackson, Ilyssa Pettigrew and Karin van Rooyen posted the second-fastest indoor time in school history.
