Track Team Finishes Fourth At OU Classic

Norman, Okla. (SMU) - The SMU women's track team started the 2005 season off with a bang, finishing fourth at the OU Classic and placing in almost every event they competed in.

Freshman Gaelle Niare took first in the high jump competition with a leap of 1.88 meters, an NCAA automatic qualifying mark, as well as the new meet high. Teammates Marie Norrman and Alesha Stegemoller placed sixth and seventh, respectively, each with a height of 1.60 meters.

Andrea Kvetova placed second in the shot put competition with a distance of 12.24 meters. Franziska Lakomy finished seventh in the competition, throwing 11.67 meters.

On the track, Courtney Dugan placed second in the one-mile in a time of 5:49.76. Lakomy finished fourth in the 800 meter in 2:29.81. Jennifer Clarke finished sixth in the 600 yard in a time of 1:36.30. Stacy Jackson finished 17th in the 200 yard in 26.68, only 1.5 seconds behind the first place finisher. The SMU "A" team came in second in the distance medley in a time of 12:24.12, followed by the SMU "B" team in third place in a time of 12:38.92.

The Mustang track team next competes January 29 at the Wes Kittley Classic in Lubbock, Texas.
