Mustangs Season Concludes At NCAA West Preliminary Round

AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) - The SMU track and field team's season came to a close this weekend in the NCAA West Preliminary Round. The Mustangs had six competitors in the field, but none were able to advance to next month's NCAA Championships at Drake.

Sprinters Amber Evans and Craishia Washington came close to advancing after both moved past the first round in the 200 meters and 400 meters. Evans moved on in the 400 meters with the 13th fastest time (53.42), but with a time of 53.39 in the next round, the senior came up 0.06 seconds shy of advancing to the NCAA finals.

Coming in at 24.20 in the 200 meters, Washington progressed past the first round. The freshman was unable to qualify for the finals after posting a time of 24.30 in the following round.
