NEW ORLEANS (SMU) - As the 2012 Conference USA Outdoor Championships came to a close tonight at Tad Gormley Stadium, SMU finished the competition in sixth place with 60 points.

In all, the Mustangs came away with a pair of gold, silver and bronze medals.

After Helena Perez won the shot put with a career-best throw of 15.82m yesterday, Amber Evans gave SMU its second win of the weekend by winning the 400m in her final opportunity as a Mustang. The senior won the event by posting a season-best time of 52.92, shaving more than a half second off of her time from yesterday's prelims.

The final day also saw Mary Alenbratt earn a third-place finish in the 1500m. The junior's time of 4:25.40 was more than 16 seconds better than her time from yesterday's prelims.

After taking second in last night's 3000m steeplechase, Kristine Eikrem-Engeset had a career-best time of 16:36.08 in the 5000m run, finishing in third place.

The next competition for SMU is the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas from May 24-26.
