Mustangs Win 4x100 Relay At Bobcat Classic

SAN MARCOS, Texas (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs won the 4x100 meter relay at the 2013 Bobcat Classic, while Helena Perez tied for first in the shot put over the weekend.

The 4x100 meter squad won the event by .37 seconds. Stephanie Kalu ran the first leg, with Isis Wilson and Rachel Scruggs following. Craishia Washington finished off the run for the Mustangs.

Perez tallied a shot put result of 15.86 meters, just .02 off her personal best. The Mustangs also had strong results in the other throwing contests, with Rayann Chin finishing second in discus (51.46m) and Elizabeth Murphy placing second in the hammer throw (60.76m).

Both Scruggs and Washington recorded personal bests in the 400m dash, with Scruggs finishing seventh at 54.58 and Washington eighth at 54.71.

SMU will turn its focus to the Conference USA Championships, which begin May 10.
