SAN MARCOS, Texas (SMU) - The SMU track and field team picked up a pair of titles this weekend at the Bobcat Classic hosted by Texas State. Seniors Amber Evans and Ayla Gill captured their second and third top finishes respectively, of the outdoor season.
In the 200 meters, Evans paced her teammates and the rest of the field as she posted a new personal-best time of 23.51, bettering her previous top time by 0.02 seconds. The mark was 0.08 seconds behind the school record. Also placing in the top five were Craishia Washington and Isis Wilson. Washington took third with a time of 24.11, while Wilson was 0.02 seconds behind her in fifth place with a new personal-best time.
Gill claimed top honors in the hammer throw with a toss of 52.38 meters, more than 1.5 meters farther than the second-place competitor. Helena Perez was fifth in the event with new personal-best throw of 49.97 meters.
Freshman Rayann Chin earned a pair of top-10 finishes after taking third in the discus (45.90m) and sixth in the shot put (14.30m). SMU also claimed a pair of top-10 results in the high jump as Lisa Egarter recorded a season-best jump of 1.70m while Valerie Lindenmuth took eighth with a jump of 1.60m.
Also earning top-10 finishes for the Mustangs were Mary Alenbratt in the 800 meters (2:11.48), Caitlin Keen in the 5000 meters (18:37.08), Maresha Carrie in the 400 hurdles (1:04.33).
SMU will next compete in the Conference USA Championships on May 10-13 in New Orleans, La.
