Washington broke the SMU 100-meter record with a time of 11.57

FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) -- The SMU track and field team opened the outdoor season with eight top-five finishes at the TCU Invitational.
In the 200 meters, Amber Evans and Craishia Washington finished second (23.53) and third (23.58). Evans time of 23.53 bested her previous best in the event, and was .1 seconds behind the school record.
While Evans topped her freshman teammate in the 200m, Washington claimed Evans' school record in the 100 meters with a time of 11.57, edging the senior's mark by .05 seconds.
In the distances, Mary Alenbratt took second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.86, finishing just under a half second out of first. Frida Kristiansson earned a fifth-place finish in the 1500 meters, coming in at 4:45.15.
The Mustang throwers claimed half of the team's top-five finishes at the invite. Helena Perez and Ayla Gill both came away with second-place finishes. Perez took second in the shot put with a toss of 15.29m, while Gill was second in the hammer with a mark of 52.79m. Freshman Rayann Chin took third in the discus (47.41m) and fifth in the shot put (14.21m).
Next week, SMU will compete at UTA in the Bobby Lane Invitational on March 23-24.
