Mustangs Finish Fifth At C-USA Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (SMU) - School records were broken in the 3000 meter run and the 4x400 meter relay as the SMU Mustangs finished fifth at the Conference USA Indoor Championships hosted by UAB this weekend.
Mary Alenbratt continued her excellent indoor season, taking third in the 3000m run with a time of 9:28.90, a school record. Alenbratt also finished fourth in the one mile run with a time of 4:45.99. The foursome of Craisha Washington, Rachel Scruggs, Isis Wilson and Stephanie Kalu set the school record in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:44.41, good for third place.
Kalu came into the weekend as one of the favorites in the 60 meter dash, and she did not disappoint, placing fourth with a time of 7.45.
Lucija Cvitanovic placed as the top freshman in the pentathlon, scoring 3822 points, good for third in the event and the third-best total in SMU history. Cvitanovic won the 800 meter run as part of the pentathlon, crossing the line in 2:20.76.
The Mustangs came into the weekend with the top marks in the C-USA in both the weight throw and shot put, and SMU placed in the top three in both events over the weekend. Helena Perez notched a personal best shot put distance of 15.61m, good for second. Rayann Chin also earned a personal best in the weight throw, posting a distance of 19.67m, finishing second. Elizabeth Murphy placed third at 19.63m.
