SMU Competes On Final Day Of The Red Raider Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas (SMU) - Junior Rayann Chin led the SMU indoor track & field team as she placed first in the weight throw (19.81m) as the SMU indoor track & field team competed on the second and final day of the Red Raider Invitational in Lubbock, Texas. With her mark in the weight throw, Chin now has recorded the top distance in the American Athletic Conference.
In addition to Chin, senior Helena Perez placed first in the shot put with a mark of 15.85m and second in the weight throw (17.70m). Freshman Tochi Nlemchi finished third in the shot put with a distance of 14.04m.
In the sprinting events for the Mustangs, sophomore Rachel Scruggs placed eighth in the 200-meter dash as she crossed the finish line in a time of 25.16 while junior Craishia Washington finished 12th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.94. In the 55-meter hurdles, sophomore Lucija Cvitanovic placed eighth with a time 8.54 seconds.
SMU continued its streak of impressive performances in distance events as the Ponies earned first, second and third in the one mile run as freshman Agnes Sjöström, senior Caitlin Keen and sophomore Shanoah Souza finished with times of 5:04.77, 5:05.19 and 5:05.37, respectively. In addition, Keen and Souza placed fourth (10:15.52) and fifth (10:26.78) in the 3000-meter run.
In the 4x400-meter relay, SMU notched a ninth place finish as the group of sophomores Holly Archer and Karoline Skatteboe and freshmen Tova Magnusson and Brennan crossed the finish line in a time of 3:55.67.
SMU is idle next weekend but returns to action on Feb. 14-15 as the team travels to Ames, Iowa for the Iowa State Classic.
