LUBBOCK, Texas (SMU) - Junior Stephanie Kalu placed first in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.75 seconds as the SMU indoor track and field team continued its indoor season at the Red Raider Invitational in Lubbock, Texas. SMU is back in action tomorrow for day two of the Invite.
The Mustangs dominated the lone throwing event as senior Helena Perez, junior Rayann Chin and freshman Tochi Nlemchi placed first (15.85m), second (14.36m) and third (14.04m) in the shot put, respectively. In addition, sophomore Lucija Cvitanovic placed ninth in the long jump with a distance of 5.36m.
In the 1000-meter run, freshman Agnes Sjöström and sophomore Melanie Stemper placed third and sixth as they recorded times of 3:00.62 and 3:06.18.
Following the Red Raider Invitational, SMU is idle next weekend but returns to action on Feb. 14-15 as the team travels to Ames, Iowa for the Iowa State Classic.
