LUBBOCK, Texas (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs opened the track and field season by dominating the long distance events at the Masked Rider Open hosted by Texas Tech.

Mary Alenbratt took the mile run title with a time of 5:05.77, and was one of five Mustangs that finished in the top 10. Karoline Skatteboe placed second, Shanoah Souza took fifth, Ashlee Powers took eighth and Caitlin Keen placed ninth.

Alenbratt also won the 3000 meter run event in 10:04.26 as the Mustangs swept the top three spots. Souza took second and Skatteboe placed third.

In the 5000 meter run, Powers took the title in 17:41.87. Keen followed her in second.

In the weight throw, Rayann Chin threw 17.75 meters, good for first. Helena Perez took third and Elizabeth Murphy took fourth.

Stephanie Kalu had a productive event, finishing second in the 55 meter dash, posting a time of 6.89.

The Mustangs next event is Friday and Saturday at the Howie Ryan Invitational hosted by Houston.
