FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. (SMU) – The SMU women’s tennis team is set for its final weekend of the fall tournament season as the Mustangs are set to split its team between the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships and the second annual San Diego State Classic. The Indoor Championships begin on Thursday, Nov. 7 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. and the Classic begins on Friday, Nov. 8 in San Diego, Calif. Both tournaments conclude on Sunday, Nov. 10. Junior Holly Verner carries a perfect 3-0 singles mark heading into the weekend.

Sophomore Vaszilisza Bulgakova has advanced to at least the round of 16 at each of the three tournaments she has competed in this fall as she has posted an overall singles record of 7-3 this fall. Most recently at the ITA Texas Regional, Bulgakova won her first three matches that included a victory over No. 98 Kenna Kilgo, a junior from Texas Tech.

Sophomore Hristina Dishkova (7-4) comes off her best tournament of the fall where she went 3-0 at Metroplex Mania this past weekend. Verner also posted an unblemished 3-0 mark at the Mania. This was her first competition of the fall season.

In addition, freshman Macie Elliott (5-3) recorded her best tournament at the Colorado Invitational where she posted a 2-1 record and fell in the semifinals. Freshman Dasha Sharapova (5-3) had her best finish at the ITA Texas Regional where she finished with a similar 2-1 mark as she reached the round of 32.

Sophomore Yana Erkeeva (4-3) and freshman Anna Kate Anderson (2-4) have also competed for the Mustangs. These two look to have successful tournaments this weekend.

In doubles, head coach Kati Gyulai has tried many different combinations throughout each tournament. Overall, the Mustang duos have combined for a 16-5 record as SMU went a combined 9-0 at Metroplex Mania. The combinations of Dishkova/Verner, Bulgakova/Sharapova and Elliott/Erkeeva each recorded records of 3-0.

SMU begins its spring season on Saturday, Jan. 25 when it hosts Stephen F. Austin at 5 p.m.
