SMU Women's Tennis Signing Class Earns No. 13 Ranking; Highest In Program History #PonyUp

DALLAS (SMU) --- The SMU Women's Tennis recruiting class is ranked No. 13 nationally according to TennisRecruting.net; the highest ranking in program history. The highly-touted 2013 signees for second-year Head Coach Kati Gyulai include Anna Anderson, Macie Elliott, Daria Sharapova, Rosalie Willig and Mary Wright.

"We are excited about the future," Coach Gyulai said. "This year's team accomplished a lot and set an example for those that follow. And the incoming group brings tremendous talent, versatility, toughness and pride to our very young program. All the players are well decorated with accolades through their junior tennis careers. They prepare to win; and expect to win." SMU finished the 2013 season ranked No. 51 after going 14-10 and recording four wins over ranked opponents. Aleksandra Malyarchikova and Edyta Cieplucha were named All-C-USA First Team selections while freshman Vaszilisza Bulgakova was selected to the All-C-USA Third Team.

The signing class includes five highly-ranked student-athletes. Sharapova is ranked No. 238 by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) while winning one ITA and finishing second in another. Willig is ranked the No. 66 player in Germany. Anderson is ranked No. 67 nationally out of South Carolina, Elliott is ranked as the top player in Indiana and Wright is the top-ranked player from Arkansas.
