DALLAS (SMU) -- SMU is set to host American Athletic Conference foe Temple on Thurs. March 6 at 4 p.m. in the Mustangs and Owls second AAC match of the season. The match will be played at the Northwood Country Club in Dallas. SMU will look to build on its current two match winning streak as SMU defeated Sam Houston State and UTEP this past Saturday.

Strength of Schedule:
SMU will play nine total teams that are ranked in the ITA. The Mustangs have also already played matches against No. 18 Texas Tech, No. 60 LSU, No. 26 Tulsa and No. 31 Memphis. SMU’s next match against a ranked opponent is next week when the Mustangs travel to Florida to take on No. 65 USF on March 12. That match is a part of a three match road trip for the Mustangs as they compete in three matches in three days beginning with Penn State on March 11 in Tampa and capping the trip off at AAC foe UCF on March 13 in Orlando.

The Week That Was:
SMU competed twice this past week as the Mustangs hosted a doubleheader versus Sam Houston State and UTEP this past Saturday. SMU defeated both teams convincingly as it swept the Beakats, 5-0 and beat the Miners, 5-2. Sophomore Hristina Dishkova (14-10) and freshman Macie Elliott (9-12) led the Ponies in singles play as each them posted victories in each match while in doubles, Dishkova and junior Holly Verner (7-1) and Elliott and sophomore Yana Erkeeva (10-4) notched doubles victories in each match as well.

Scouting the Owls:
Temple is 3-5 this season and has defeated Drexel (7-0), St. Francis (7-0) and Hampton (7-0). The Owls are led by seniors Anais Nussaume and Jordan Batey who have posted solid 9-3 and 8-5 marks this spring, respectively.

Previous Meeting:
Thursday marks the second ever meeting between SMU and Temple. The two schools met for the first time in the 2002-03 season when Mustangs swept the Owls, 4-0 in a neutral site match in San Diego, Calif.

Start of an Era:
Joining the American Athletic Conference for its inaugural season, the SMU women’s tennis team is competing in its fourth conference since the program’s inception in 1972. The American consists of 10 teams during its first season, highlighted by three ranked teams including No. 21 Houston, No. 27 Memphis and No. 62 South Florida.

A Temporary Home:
SMU will play its home matches at the Northwood Club Tennis Courts while the new SMU men’s and women’s tennis complex is being built. The address for the Northwood Club is 6524 Alpha Rd. Dallas, TX 75240. Below are directions from the Loyd All-Sports Center on SMU’s campus to Northwood.
