Bulgakova In The Rankings:

Strength of Schedule:
SMU will play nine total teams that are ranked in the ITA. The Mustangs have also already played matches against No. 18 Texas Tech, No. 60 LSU, No. 26 Tulsa and No. 31 Memphis. Next for SMU is Friday’s match at No. 41 TCU.

The Week That Was:
SMU competed four times this past week including against two ranked opponents and dropped all four matches. Individually, the Mustangs were led by freshman Dasha Sharapova as she recorded a 2-1 mark improving her overall record to 9-7 this season.

Scouting the Horned Frogs:
No. 41 TCU is 3-5 this season but has played a very tough schedule thus far as each of its losses has come to a ranked opponent. TCU and SMU’s only common opponent this season is No. 31 Memphis in which each team fell to the Tigers in a close match. The Horned Frogs are led by No. 52 ranked junior Stefanie Tan (18-4) who has posted a perfect 3-0 mark in the No. 1 singles position.

Previous Meeting:
SMU and TCU last met a season ago on April 3, 2013 when the Mustangs defeated fell to then ranked No. 35 Horned Frogs, 4-3. In that match, the Mustangs earned two wins over ranked foes including one in doubles when now sophomore Vaszilisza Bulgakova and now graduated Aleksandra Malyarchikova upset the No. 47 duo 8-6. SMU captured the doubles point as now graduated Edyta Cieplucha and now sophomore Yana Erkeeva won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles position. Sophomore Hristina Dishkova also notched a win for the Mustangs in the No. 5 singles position.

Start of an Era:
Joining the American Athletic Conference for its inaugural season, the SMU women’s tennis team is competing in its fourth conference since the program’s inception in 1972. The American consists of 10 teams during its first season, highlighted by three ranked teams including No. 32 Memphis, No. 61 South Florida and No. 66 Louisville.

A Temporary Home:
SMU will play its home matches at the Northwood Club Tennis Courts while the new SMU men’s and women’s tennis complex is being built. The address for the Northwood Club is 6524 Alpha Rd. Dallas, TX 75240. Below are directions from the Loyd All-Sports Center on SMU’s campus to Northwood.
