SAN DIEGO, Calif. (SMU) - Freshman Anna Kate Anderson finished the fall season at 5-4 as she defeated Utah sophomore Sarah Richter, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, while the SMU women's tennis team competed on the final day of the second annual San Diego State Classic. This was the final tournament of the fall season for the Mustangs. SMU opens its spring season on Saturday, Jan. 25 against Stephen F. Austin at 5 pm.   

In addition to Anderson, sophomore Hristina Dishkova finished the fall season at 8-6 as she beat Washington senior Andjela Nemcevic, 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Macie Elliott defeated California State Northridge freshman Vivian Lin, 6-0, 2-6, 8-6.

Junior Holly Verner finished her fall season with a 5-1 record. After losing her first match of the fall seaon on day two of the Classic, Verner bounced back with a victory over San Diego State junior Hailey Johnson, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles, SMU was led by sophomore Yana Erkeeva and Elliott as the duo improved to 4-1 together this fall. They defeated CSUN freshmen Kristen Poei and Mickey Hsu, 8-6.

SMU is now idle until its spring season that begins on Jan. 25 when the Mustangs take on Stephen F. Austin at 5 pm.
