Mustangs Win Eight Matches On Day Two Of Metroplex Mania

DENTON, Texas (SMU) – The SMU women’s tennis team won eight of nine matches on day two of Metroplex Mania. The Mustangs went a combined 3-0 in doubles matches for the second consecutive day.
SMU won five of six singles matches that began with sophomore Hristina Dishkova winning her second match in as many days as she defeated North Texas sophomore Dane Joubert, 6-3, 6-1 to improve her overall record to 6-4 this fall. Junior Holly Verner improved her overall record to 2-0 as she defeated Collin College sophomore Amanda Gilson, 6-1, 6-2.
In addition, freshmen Dasha Sharapova (4-3) and Macie Elliott (4-3) defeated North Texas freshman Alexis Thoma, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 and Collin College sophomore Clorinda Wessels, 6-2, 6-0, respectively. Sophomore Yana Erkeeva defeated Mean Green freshman Ana Sofia Cordero, 6-2, 6-2 as she improved her overall record to 3-3.
In doubles, three SMU duos won three matches for the second consecutive day to improve the Mustangs overall doubles record to 13-5 this fall. Each of these three pairs is now 2-0 in when paired together.
Dishkova and Verner defeated Tyler Junior College’s Savva and freshman Kylie Reynaud, 8-5. Elliott and Erkeeva also defeated a tandem from Tyler Junior College, 8-3.
In addition, sophomore Vaszilisza Bulgakova and Sharapova won their match over TCU senior Millie Nichols and freshman Seda Arantekin, 8-2.
Metroplex Mania continues on Sunday for the final day of competition in Denton, Texas.
