Mustangs Win Five Matches On Day One Of Metroplex Mania

DENTON, Texas (SMU) – Junior Holly Verner earned her first win, in her first match of the 2013 season as she defeated Tyler Junior College freshman Kylie Reynaud in straight sets, (6-3, 6-0) as the SMU women’s tennis team competed on day one of Metroplex Mania. The Mustangs went a combined 3-0 in doubles on day one.

In addition to Verner, sophomore Hristina Dishkova improved her overall record to 5-4 as she defeated TCU freshman Hanna Victorrson in three sets, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.  

In doubles, three SMU duos defeated three UTA tandems to improve the Mustangs overall doubles record to 10-5 this fall.

Dishkova and Verner led the way for the Mustangs as the duo defeated Maverick junior Giada D’Ortona and freshman Jessica Birowski, 8-0. This was the first time Dishkova and Verner had been paired together this fall.

In addition, sophomore Vaszilisza Bulgakova and freshman Dasha Sharapova paired up for the first time and won their match over UTA sophomore Elizabeth Thoms and freshman Astrid Gehre, 8-2. Sophomore Yana Erkeeva and freshman Macie Elliott also teamed up for the first time this fall as the duo defeated Maverick freshmen Angeles de los Rios and Ekaterina Tugarinova, 8-4.                                                                                                                             


 

 

Metroplex Mania continues on Saturday for day two in Denton, Texas. The event concludes on Sunday, Nov. 3.
