HILTON HEAD, S.C. (SMU) – Sophomore Vaszilisza Bulgakova fell to Kristin Wiley in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, in the round of 16 singles draw. Freshman Anna Kate Anderson and Tulsa freshman Yelena Nemchen were defeated by Emma Hayman and Michelle Simmons in the round of 16 doubles draw, 6-0, 6-2.

With the loss, Bulgakova falls to 4-2 overall and finishes the USTA Women’s 10K Tournament with a 2-1 record. This was her second straight round of 16 appearance as she reached that mark last week at the Amelia Island 10K Championships.

Anderson and Nemchen finished the tournament with a 1-1 mark.

“It was a tough day for the Mustangs,” assistant coach Jeff Hammond said. “The tournament as a whole was very valuable for our growth as a team.”

SMU is idle until Thursday, Oct. 17 when the team travels to Fort Worth, Texas to compete in the ITA Texas Regional.
