HILTON HEAD, S.C. (SMU) – Sophomore Vaszilisza Bulgakova defeated Nami Otsuka  in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 in the qualifying round. With the win, Bulgakova improves to 3-1 overall and faces Mia Horvit in the round of 32.

“Lisa was unstoppable today,” assistant coach Jeff Hammond said.

In addition to Bulgakova, sophomore Hristina Dishkova and freshman Anna Kate Anderson also competed in singles matches today for the Mustangs.

Dishkova fell to Madison Bourguignon in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 and falls to 1-2 overall with the loss. Anderson won the first set of her young career but fell to Khristina Blajkevitch, 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-2. She drops to 0-2 on the season.

“We have to realize the importance of having excellent habits when it comes to the little things,” Hammond said. “This group is dedicated to getting better and I know we will.”

This weekend SMU split its team between the Colorado Invitational (Sept. 27-29) and the USTA Women’s 10K Tournament. On day two of the Tournament (Monday, Sept. 30), Bulgakova competes in her round of 32 singles match.
