No. 52 Cieplucha And Fayner Win As SMU Drops Decision Vs. UCF

DALLAS (SMU) - No. 52 Edyta Cieplucha and freshman Elena Fayner each recorded wins against UCF at Northwood Country Club on Sunday. The Mustangs won the top two singles spots, but fell 5-2 in the next to last home match of the season. Cieplucha improved to 17-7 on the year and 11-4 at No. 1 singles. Fayner improved to 8-7 overall and has won five of her last six outings.
Ashley Turpin played No. 4 singles for the Mustangs, dropping a 6-2, 6-2 decision. She is completing her second season with the Mustangs. As a junior, she helped SMU advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time since 1988. She scored the match-winning point in her singles win against Texas A&M in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Championship as SMU advanced with a 4-3 decision. She has been named Conference USA Academic Honor Roll the past two seasons and is completing a degree in psychology.
Heather Steinbauer played at No. 3 singles, falling 2-6, 7-6, 6-4. She is also completing her second season with SMU tennis. As a junior she was ranked as high as No. 117 in singles and No. 29 in doubles with Marta Lesniak. Steinbauer finished the 2010-11 season third on the team with 22 singles victories and helped the Mustangs reach the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time since 1988. Her 22nd win of the year came against Texas A&M in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Championship. She partnered with Edyta Cieplucha for 20 wins in 2010-11, which tied for six by a tandem at SMU. Heather also teamed with Lesniak to reach the title match in doubles at the 2010 ITA Regional and the round of 16 at the 2010 ITA All-American. She has been named Conference USA Academic Honor Roll the past two seasons and is working toward a degree in applied physiology and sports management.
The Mustangs host Rice at Northwood Country Club in the final home match of the season on Saturday at 1 p.m.
