SMU Earn No. 48 Ranking In ITA Poll, Then Defeat No. 63. UC Santa Barbara 4-1

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (SMU) --- The No. 48 SMU women's tennis team moved into the ITA rankings on Tuesday and followed it with a 4-1 victory at No. 63 UC Santa Barbara. The Mustangs (8-5) won the doubles point and three singles points en route to the win.
"We played at an optimal intensity level from the start," said head coach Kati Gyulai. "We are pleased with the outcome."
The Mustangs took the early lead by winning the doubles point. Vaszilisza Bulgakova and Aleksandra Malyarchikova won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles while Hristina Dishkova and Holly Verner also scored an 8-3 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, SMU won its three points in straight sets. No. 111 Edyta Cieplucha cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 advantage at No. 2 singles. At No. 3, Vaszilisza Bulgakova gave up just three games in a 6-2, 6-1 victory. In the No. 4 spot, Hristina Dishkova was dominant in her 6-3, 6-2 triumph.
The Mustangs are back in action tonight at Santa Clara at 5:30 p.m. CT/3:30 p.m. PT.
