DALLAS (SMU) – Sophomore Yana Erkeeva won her fourth match in a row with her victory over Texas A&M Corpus Christi senior Sandra Burges in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 singles position, but the Islanders defeated the No. 75 ranked Mustangs, 4-3, in Dallas on Wednesday. Erkeeva improved her overall record to 10-4 this season.

The Islanders took the opening doubles point and then won at the No. 4, 5 and 6 singles positions to secure the match victory. With the loss, SMU drops to 1-4 this spring while Texas A&M Corpus Christi improved to 4-1.

In addition to Erkeeva, sophomore Hristina Dishkova (12-7) and freshman Dasha Sharapova (8-6) notched the other SMU victories as they competed at the No. 1 and 2 singles positions. Dishkova defeated Islander senior Stefania Nicolae in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6 while Sharapova beat sophomore Maider Martin in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0.

SMU is back in action on Saturday when the team travels to No. 26 Tulsa for its first road match of the season. The Mustangs return home on Sunday against Miami (OH) at 12 p.m. at the North Country Club in Dallas.
