Phil Hansel Invitational - Day 1 Results
HOUSTON (SMU) - The SMU swimming and diving teams opened competition in the Phil Hansel Invitational Thursday night at the University of Houston. The women are currently in third place, behind No. 4 Texas A&M and No. 23 Arkansas. The men hold the fourth spot, as No. 20 LSU, Wyoming and Texas A&M lead the way in the men's competition.
The women kicked off the meet by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Nathalie Lindborg, Isabella Arcila, Monika Babok and Nina Rangelova combined for a time of 1:30.08, an NCAA B qualifying time. The Mustangs recorded another B standard in the 400-yard medley relay. Arcila, Rachel Nicol, Danielle Villars and Nathalie Lindborg claimed second in the event, clocking it at 3:37.09.
Arcila continued her strong meet with runner-up honors in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 22.70 (NCAA B). Lindborg was fifth in the event (23.07).
Rangelova took a top-eight finish in the 500-yard freestyle, coming in seventh with a mark of 4:48.07.
The men turned in a pair of third-place finishes in 200-yard freestyle relay (1:21.98) and the 400-yard medley relay (3:17.41).
Senior standout Mindaugas Sadauskas won the 50-yard freestyle with an NCAA B time of 20.14. Senior Ryan Koops finished sixth with a time of 20.86.
Freshman Eastman Holloway had a strong showing in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing fourth in a time of 4:28.86, while junior Matt Roney came in eighth (4:31.86).
Also picking up important points for the Mustangs were sophomores Matas Andriekus (eighth 200-yard individual medley, 1:53.38) and Devin Burnett (sixth one-meter diving, 321.55 points).
The Mustangs continue competition today.
