SAN DIEGO (SMU) - SMU swimming alum Laura Reback Bennett made the 2012 U.S. Olympic triathlon team with a third-place finish at the ITU World Triathlon San Diego this weekend, clocking in with a time of 2:00:11. Bennett also represented the U.S. in 2008 Beijing Games, taking fourth place in the triathlon.

During her time at SMU, Bennett was a four-year NCAA All-American. She led the Mustangs to a national title in the 400-yard medley relay her senior year (1997), swimming the third leg for the squad that swam a school-record breaking time. Bennett also earned the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship at the end of her four-year career at SMU.

The 2012 Olympic Games will be held in London July 27 - August 12. The women's triathlon is slated for August 4.
