PROVIDENCE, R.I. (The American/SMU) - The SMU women's swimming and diving team placed nine student-athletes on the 2014 Swimming and Diving All-Conference Team, league officials announced Wednesday. Participants were awarded the honor for placing top three in their respective events at the inaugural conference championship held Feb. 19-22.

"I am excited about the number of all-conference awards our team earned at the American Conference Championships," Head Coach Steve Collins said. "The team worked hard this year in preparation for this meet.  These awards are a reflection of the hard work and dedication the entire team put forth this season."

Seniors Monika Babok and Nina Rangelova, juniors Isabella Arcila, Nathalie Lindborg and Rachel Nicol and freshmen Marne Erasmus, Tara-Lynn Nicholas, Ursa Bezan and Kirsty McLauchlan all earned all-conference honors.

Erasmus and Nicholas earned the Mustangs' two individual championships in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard breaststroke, respectively. Erasmus also set a new school standard and hit an NCAA `A' qualifying mark with her performance in the event.

SMU's other championship performances came in the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relays. Arcila, Lindborg, Erasmus and Babok accounted for the 200-team, while Rangelova, Arcila, Nicol and Erasmus swam the 400-medley and posted an NCAA `A' cut time.
