IRVING, Texas (SMU) - SMU senior freestyle specialist Emily Vavourakis has been named to the 2012-13 Conference USA Women’s Swimming and Diving All-Academic Team. She is an environmental engineering major that holds a 3.84 grade point average.
Vavourakis garnered All-Academic honors during the 2011-12 seasons and has competed in 8 meets this season for the Mustangs. She has maintained a grade point average of at least a 3.6 during her entire college career, and has earned the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal 3 times and will earn it again this year. Vavourakis posted her best time in the 50-yard freestyle (23.64), tied for seventh. She complements that with posting her top time in the 100-yard freestyle (51.92), ranked ninth. For the past three years she has been a conference finalist.
Vavourakis is joined on this season’s team by Kirstie Russell of East Carolina University, Reka Kovacs of Houston, Danielle Spence of Rice, Gisele Calderon, and Kristine Gu both of Tulane.
