HOUSTON (SMU) - The SMU swimming and diving teams maintain their leads at the Conference USA Championships after the second day of competition. The women have 269 points and the men have 351 through 14 events.
Sophomore standout Nina Rangelova continued her strong season with a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Rangelova touched the wall in 4:42.47, an NCAA B standard, besting her nearest competitor by more than six seconds.
Senior All-American Therese Svendsen earned top honors in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing in an NCAA B time of 1:58.08. Freshman Rachel Nicol had a bronze finish, swimming the event in 2:02.22.
Freshman diver Sky Corbett-Methot picked up important points for the Mustangs with her third place finish (305.50 points) in the three-meter dive.
The men swept the top four spots in the 50-yard freestyle, earning a total of 68 points for the Mustangs. Junior Mindaugas Sadauskas claimed first place (20.02, NCAA B standard), junior David Larsson placed second (20.19, NCAA B standard), sophomore Ryan Koops was third (20.23, NCAA B standard) and sophomore Nicolai Hansen finished fourth (20.35).
