Swim Teams Lead C-USA Championship After Day One

HOUSTON (SMU) - The SMU swimming and diving teams are leading the Conference USA Championships after the first day of competition. The women have 80 points and the men have 145 through the first five event.
The Mustangs swept top honors in the relay events. The women took first in the 200-yard medley relay as Therese Svendsen, Erica Donadon, Genny Konicke and Isabella Arcila swam the event in an NCAA B standard of 1:36.84. SMU won the 800-yard freestyle relay with Nina Rangelova, Svendsen, Eleonor Lindborg and Denisa Smolenova clocking in at 7:11.27, an NCAA B time.
The men also claimed a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as Matas Andriekus, Julian Fletcher, David Larsson and Mindaugas Sadauskas had an NCAA B time of 1:27.63. SMU won the 800-yard freestyle relay as Nicolai Hansen, Matt Roney, Giedrius Andriunaitis and Blaz Korosec touched the wall in 6:32.80 (NCAA B).
SMU dominated the medal stand in the one-meter dive. Freshman Devin Burnett continued his stellar rookie season by winning the event with a score of 361.20. Junior Richard Cornelius garnered runner-up honors with 305.70 points, and Hayden Hodges came in third with 293.30 points.
