Erasmus Leads SMU On Night One Of Mesa Grand Prix

MESA, Ariz. (SMU) - Freshman Marne Erasmus placed third in the A Final of the 100-meter butterfly on night one of the Mesa Grand Prix at the Skyline Aquatic Center.

Erasmus, who is the SMU record holder in the 100-yard butterfly, finished the event in a time of 1:00.66 for the third spot. Senior Nina Rangelova also advanced to finals and finished out the evening with a fourth-place finish in the C Final at 1:02.55.

A pair of swimmers represented SMU in the 200-meter breaststroke A final, with former Mustang Raminta Dvariskyte clocking in at 2:33.36 for sixth place. Freshman Tara-Lynn Nicholas touched the wall in 2:35.19 for eighth. 

In the first event of the evening, Rangelova finished third in the B Final, and 11th overall, of the 100-meter freestyle. Rangelova clocked in at 56.27. Junior Nathalie Lindborg also competed in the event's C Final and finished fifth in a time of 57.91.

SMU is back in action on Friday for night two of the Grand Prix. Events include the 400-meter individual medley, 200-meter freestyle, 200-meter backstroke and 50-meter freestyle.
