AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) - The SMU women's swimming and diving team was defeated by No. 6 Texas 137-89 Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Nina Rangelova was the Mustangs' top performer, winning two individual events. Rangelova won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:47.59. She then took top honors in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 4:49.82 and besting the field by more than 23 seconds. Both times earn Rangelova consideration for the NCAA Championships.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Therese Svendsen picked up important points for the Mustangs, winning the event in 1:57.62.
Raminta Dvariskyte picked up another win for SMU in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.04).
Denisa Smolenova took second in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 2:04.35. Smolenova also swam the final leg of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:36.02).
Senior captain Audra Egenolf took second in the three-meter dive, with a score of 300.05 and came in third in the one-meter dive, earning 264.85 points.
The Mustangs compete in the Conference USA Championships Feb. 23-26 in Houston.
