Sorry I skipped last week. The Conference USA travel schedule is demanding.

Time to assess where we stand. At 6-6-1 and 2-2-1 in the league I guess you could say we are absolutely average. I feel like we're better than our record, but you are what you are. I do take some satisfaction in the quality of the schedule that we've played, and our ability to compete against the top teams. We've played four teams that have been ranked in the top-15 and all of those have been on the road. While we are 1-3 in those matches, two are overtime losses.

We took a huge stride on Sunday at UCF. They were a top-10 team going into the match and after watching them on film I was impressed. We were going to have to be very solid in defense and pick our times to go forward. The team followed the plan perfectly. The second goal we scored was pretty sweet. Mallory Baum sent a long cross to Shelby Redman who one-touched to Rikki Clarke behind the defense and Rikki finished it calmly. It was a tremendous effort from our group who showed what they are really capable of. I was specifically proud of our defensive effort. Our defending unit has been much maligned. It's a group of players playing new positions without much experience. They have had their share of difficult days. Sunday they were very good. They are starting to get some confidence and come together as a group. If we can build on that effort and confidence we can finish strong.

It's off to East Carolina and Marshall this weekend. ECU has had a very good year. They currently sit in second place in the league. They don't give up goals so our attack will be challenged. Marshall is a tough team as well. They can score, so the challenge may be different on Sunday. I know we'll compete hard and these games will be close. Hopefully some things will go our way and we can come home with a few more points in the league than we have now. With the league standings so close almost everyone is still in play to win the league and almost everyone is still in play to miss out on the conference tournament. The picture will be clearer after this weekend. However, I see this thing going right down to the last match. There is a ton of parity in the league and crazy things happen every weekend.

Keep your fingers crossed for us this weekend.
